Charles Butler

Charles Butler served, between 1966 and 1970, as Associate Director of the Consultative Center for Equal Education Opportunity, credited for successful desegregation of Oklahoma public schools. The first African American, tenure-track faculty member in the College of Education at OU, Butler taught for 31 years. In 1984, he became the Director of the Law-Citizenship Project at the University of Oklahoma that trained educators to teach the basic principles of law. He is Professor Emeritus of Human Relations and Education, University of Oklahoma, where he established a degree program in 1992. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2006.
