Sidney DeVere Brown

Sidney DeVere Brown was granted the title Professor Emeritus of History at his retirement from the University of Oklahoma in 1995. Prior to that, he was Professor of History at Oklahoma State University from 1952 to 1971. After he retired at OU, he was appointed Distinguished Emeriti Professor of History at the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha. Knowledgeable about Asian culture and Japanese culture in particular, he lectured around the world—and continues to lecture—on Japanese-American culture and relationships. Brown was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame in 2000 and is currently on the Oklahoma Higher Education Heritage Society board of directors.
