Marion Paden
Dr. Marion Paden's K-12 education at university school in Norman was idyllic, setting a solid foundation for her academic journey. Her freshman year in college was unfortunate but inspired her academic pursuits and framed her career. Transferring to Oklahoma State University as a sophomore, Paden earned a bachelor's in psychology and a master's in student personnel and guidance. She completed her doctorate of education at NOVA University. Over her 40-year career in higher education, while working at Oklahoma State, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Navarro College and Oklahoma City Community College, she always focused on programs and people promoting student success. As a licensed professional counselor, she served as vice president for student services at OCCC for over 20 years.
Most recently, Paden served as president and CEO of Leadership Oklahoma, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering a network of Oklahomans committed to ethical, positive change. She has also served on numerous boards, including the College Board, American Red Cross, Oklahoma All Sports Association and the Junior League of Oklahoma. She is currently a trustee for the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, the Homeless Alliance, and Magdalene House OKC and a member of the Economic Club of Oklahoma, Sister Cities International and the Rotary Club of OKC.
A few of her numerous recognitions include induction into the Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame, OCU's Dulaney-Browne Library Society, Association of Women in Communications Byliners, The Journal Record's "Circle of Excellence," the inaugural "Class of 55 Over 55 Inspiring Oklahomans" and 405 Magazine's "The Metro's Most Influential." The Dr. Marion Paden Endowed Distinguished Leadership Scholarship was established at OCCC by former State Regent John Massey.
Paden enjoys spending time with people committed to making their lives matter. She has traveled to all 50 states and 38 countries across six continents and resides in OKC with her husband, Rowell Sargeant.
