Sunderesh S. Heragu

Sunderesh S. Heragu is a Regents Professor and holds the John Hendrix Chair at Oklahoma State University. He has served in numerous administrative roles at the university, raising the national stature of the School of Industrial Engineering and Management as well as helping the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology advance on multiple fronts. He was on the faculty at the University of Louisville, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and SUNY-Plattsburgh. He has also held visiting appointments at SUNY Buffalo, Technical University of Eindhoven, University of Twente, and IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center.

Heragu received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Mysore, an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Ph.D from the University of Manitoba. He is author of the 5th edition of the textbook, “Facilities Design,” which is used in hundreds of universities worldwide and has been translated into multiple languages. In addition, he has authored or co-authored 250 articles and served as principal investigator or co-investigator on research projects that have received a total of over $27 million in funding by federal agencies and private companies.

Heragu is a fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the World Academy of Productivity Sciences. He has received the Reed-Apple award, the David F Baker Distinguished Research award for outstanding research, the Fred C. Crane Distinguished Service award for service contributions, the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award for significant contributions to the profession, the IISE Technical Innovation Award, and best paper awards. He is the only person in IISE’s 77-year history to have received the pinnacle awards in education, research, and service.

Currently the President of IISE, Heragu was an ABET commissioner and has delivered keynote talks at several venues. He also conceived and developed the Cowboy Academy of Industrial Engineering and Management at OSU, an alumni organization with 100 stalwart members from industry and academia.
